Ok i think its time that we had a place to post some pics of our modded videocards

so here we go

Please post pics of your card and info about your card and o/c such as:

Model, Manufacturer etc..
Stock Speeds.
Overclocked Speeds.
3d mark scores before and after mods.
and generally give some useful info on the card.

*EDIT* DO NOT turn this in to your personal chat thread! Don't ask questions in this thread or leave comments! PM the person you have questions for or start a new thread. Authors, please edit your descriptions to add comments.

OK me first

The card is a Geforce 2 ti made by hercules

It has a old cpu cooler rated at 1.1ghz on the gpu and a stock cooler from a 2400+ athlon cut in half on the ram. The gpu cooler is held on by bolts through the card and hsink and the ram sinks are held on by superglue in the corners of each chip and as3. The gpu fan is a 60mm from the stock athlon hsink.

Stock speeds are :250/400
O/c speeds are : 290/445
3Dmark02 = 5250marks
3Dmark03 = 250marks

its a overkill for a gf2ti but it only cost me a few $ and i think it was worth it :D

ATI Radeon 9500 PRO 128 MB, by Sapphire
Memory Infineon 3.3ns

Stock: 275/275
Overclocked : 405/310, stable @360/300

ThermalRight SK-6, Delta 50 CFM fan
9 TweakMonster RAMsinks

I used a lot of Arctic Alumina adhesive for the HSF.
A little bit on the core itself, but a LOT around it and on the shim.

All RAMsinks were attached the same way.

But you don't need them really, just the one on the back of the GPU.

No-brand (a.k.a. extremely bad) Geforce 2 GTS

I used a Socket 7 HS, attached it using rubber bands, and then put a 50mm fan on it.
I also put on RAMsinks made from two old heatsinks cut into fourths.

Stock: 175/(forget) <-- Why the **** is my card below standard nVidia spec??
Overclocked: 217/374 (max with no artifacts)

The RAM is Infineon 5.5ns but it's still doing very badly.

Here is a Asylum Ti4600 128mb I got for free, Fan died and the user didn't realize that and bought a new card, so I got a free ti4600 to mess with.. this card would not oc at all, 300 stock core anything above and would give glitches.. Ram would do 700 up from 650..

So I pull off the fan and lapped the gpu, to my amazement this thing had a sunken spot in the center that I was afraid to take out 100%, I didn't want to take it down too far, so I got it close to 100%.. see pics..

I then threw on a cpu cooler (Lapped to a nice shine) with some Artic Alumina as well as cut up some small ramsinks for the ram, I might re do them as I didn't gain anything from the ram, might be at max at 700ish.. plus the sinks are allittle to narrow.. and one turned when drying, I did all this while at work.. :D

anyways I can now hit a core of 330 clean, and ram the same at 700.. However the core at anything above 310 my 3dmark score goes down, oh well.. got a free card out of the deal, it will replace my MSI ti4200 64mb card that would do 300/615 so Im not complaining..

I took my old heatsink off and lapped the core of my Radeon 8500.

For the heatsink, I used a CoolJag 1U copper heatsink with an Evercool 16CFM fan (the stock one was too damn loud). I had to cut a chunk out of the cooler to make it fit (as you can see on the top left). Since there's no mounting holes on this card, I used some AS Ceramique in the middle and cheap-o thermal epoxy on the corners. This heatsink is pretty heavy, but I'm sure the epoxy will hold...

http://home.houston.rr.com/tacofox/IMG_1509sm.jpg

Haven't overclocked it yet.. I think I'll wait until the epoxy fully cures.

Ram with sinks up from 310 up to 337mhz.

Check er out here for the Vmod, poppin the shim off and putting on the amd sink/fan on your video card.

Well I got rid of the Ti4600 I just modded (it was free) and picked up a 9500.. Soft modded it and everything came out just fine, not problems at all.. :D

I could over clock under stock conditions from 270/275 to 370/310 anything above 370 would give me artifacts.. I hope this will let me go alittle further, if not it looks good :D

Ram will have to wait, I have some Zelman NB coolers Im thinking of cutting up to fit.. have to measure to see if it will work..

I finaly decided to go ahead and do the 8500>9100 mod and put a Crystal orb cooler and some ran sinks on. Though it all went realy well, I dont think the flash to the 9100 bios realy made much of a difference but I can however clock my core from 250 up to 315 without any trouble and my ram from 250 up to 283 which is about 20mhz more than I could without the ram sinks. Check er out RIGHT HERE! (http://www.jjman.org/modules/nsections/index.php?op=viewarticle&artid=11)

The main question I have now is, I was all ready to vmod this card also only my card is a different reference since the reference on the internet was a real 8500, mine is a 8500LE. Does anyone know where I can find the info to vmod this card? Pix and such are on that link I posted.

Hey all,
My Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro with P4 2.8Ghz stock cooler and fan.
I cut down the heatsink just enough so it only takes up one PCI slot. Having the 60mm fan at the angle its at is nearly just as effective - i removed the PCI backplate below the card to let out the hot air. For added security with the Arctic Aluminia, the sink is tightly held on with a giant Zip Tie. Coolermaster copper ramsinks on RAM chips.

http://home.cogeco.ca/~zoltan/The%20day%20i%20modded%20my%20card/Modded%20Card%20Finished%20product.jpg

Is it safe that the fan is being held onto that stock amd heatsink by Krazy glue, and that metal piece that attaches to the heatsink to hold the fan is stuck to the heatsink by Krazy glue.

Also i did not remove the shim! didnt need too. and i didnt drill any holes and screw it down, just AS thermal adhesive!!!

I still have to put some ram sinks on that.

Edit: weird i cant post a second pic, whatever i think this gets enough of the message across.

Ill leave a link to my site with more pictures.
Also those notches were a pain to cut but it was way better this way i could bridge the heatsink over 2 ram chips allowing more cooling capacity. But notches on the card stuck out so we slitly carved out what we needed too. Turned out good on the back of the card, but the front of the card failed and we had to just cut the sinks up individually which didnt look as fine but still looks good to me.

You should not be asking questions in here only posting pictures.
But for the sake of answering your question Yes they can. Notice how there is no bend in that pcb card. THe card is strongenough to hold all the ramsinks and heatsinks we put on it.

Heres my Sapphire 9800XT with a 3/4 inch think base of copper and aluminum rods used for AMDs (swifttech) but not today.Tapped the holes and used screws and springs for tension as you can see with nylon washers.
Used AS5 on the gpu and memory but on the memory I put a dab of artic silver on the corners to hold them on.

Used artic Alumina to mount the NB cooler on the back of the gpu.

No good pics of the card in my case (yet..) because of lighting, but here's my mod from a few days ago :)

Heatsink is something my best friend had laying around. Not sure what it is!

The HS is on crooked because I ended up having no way to accuratly measure the distance and angle the holes span. Basically I measured the distance, made a quick attempt at measuring the angle, and drilled. I BARELY clear the AGP slot.

http://pokemonrepository.no-ip.com/ocforums/newhs2.jpg
...and yes, a staplesink remains becuase there wasn't quite enough of the P1 heatsink to cover them all :D

Hey, 1 or 2 questions like that interspersed among all the gallery pics is fine. I mean, that's what's running through most people's heads when they look at this stuff. ;)

Comments are not bad things, they add liveliness to the gallery, as long as they are not in excess ;) :D

03-13-04, 11:44 AM
Well, when i first started this gallery I had no problem with people asking questions in it but it quickly got out of hand.

Most of the posts were spam so Shadow cleaned it all up without asking me and now your not allowed to ask questions. You have to pm people just like all the other gallerys we have. Its best for the thread.
If you allow people to 'comment' then you end up with only a couple of picture post per page and dosent looks right.

From the man himself:

*EDIT* DO NOT turn this in to your personal chat thread! Don't ask questions in this thread or leave comments! PM the person you have questions for or start a new thread. Authors, please edit your descriptions to add comments.

those weak rubber bands arent really holding my card. i just put them in the beginning because it helped me placing the hs in the right direction.
the real thing holding the hs is a thick copper wire from an old psu.

Ok, I'll do a little timeline here:

1) I got my Powercolor Radeon 9800SE and softmodded it.

2) With stock cooling, I ran it at 410/700.

3) I added homemade staple RAM Sinks to the card. Clocked it to 415/720.

http://clantoolz.com/prizefightinggoats/forum/uploads/ßùStä·/9800SE_ghetto.jpg

http://clantoolz.com/prizefightinggoats/forum/uploads/ßùStä·/9800SE_ghetto2.jpg

4) Shortly after, I removed my staple sinks and replaced them with copper sinks from an old video card. I only had enough to cover one side, so I left the staple sinks on the other side. I was then able to raise my clock to 720.

5) I flashed my card to a Powercolor Radeon 9800XT, and was able to keep my speed stable at 415/730.

6) I went out and bought an AMD CPU Heatsink + Fan, and mounted it onto my video card, spreading epoxy mixed with liquid clear along the shim, and putting thermal paste on the GPU. Core speeds went up to 430. The rubber bands in the first image were only used until the concoction of glue was fully cured.

http://clantoolz.com/prizefightinggoats/forum/uploads/ßùStä·/9800SE_fan.jpg

http://clantoolz.com/prizefightinggoats/forum/uploads/ßùStä·/9800SE_fanSide.jpg

7) I then added a small fan from a Riva TNT2 core. Final clock with all mods done, 440/735. Doesn't even run hot.

http://www.iownjoo.com/freeimghost/busta/9800SE_fans.JPG

The upcoming changes I am going to make are replacing all the sinks I am currently using, and adding 8 OCZ copper sinks, adding another fan similar to the small one in the last picture to the other side of the heatsink, and finally, voltmodding the card.

Built by ATi 128 Meg 9800 Pro. I've got a 172W / 24V peltier on this card, but it's only being run on 12V, for about ~66W. I've got a 24V PSU on the way, which should get me down to sub-zero temperatures :)

The card is fully voltage modified, the blue CERMET potentiometer is for the Core voltage, the Yellow CERMET potentiometer is for the Memory voltage.

Here's a picture of the card's backside, with the voltage modifications, RAMsinks, and Voltage regulator IC sinks.

felinusz

The card is on an independant watercooling loop, with a Chevette Heatercore to itself.

I'm seeing load temperatures around 19 degrees celcius, overclocked, (the core at 520 MHz, for now) and with a slight (1.8V from 1.7V stock) overvolt on the core. The RAM is at 384 for now, with the voltage modification removed via the memory volt mod jumper. I installed a jumper with each mod to make it easier to go back to the card's stock voltage without pulling the modification. The jumpers are visible and closed in the above picture.

Here is my second picture, which better shows the Maze 4 Waterblock, as well as the top-side RAMsinks.

Humm... Another Radeon with RAM Sinks and an Oversized SocketA cooler. Oh well. It would be better if ATI just made them this way.

This is the heat sink that I used. It worked very well and still leaves me with 3 PCI slots to use.

http://www.unreal-systems.net/BB2_8.JPG

I was to afraid to glue it on to the card (which I did to an old GeForceMX440) so I used a number #4-40 tap and drilled/tapped two holes in the heat sink. Used a few left over springs and, well here you have it.

Got alot on your mind mate, :D I recomend overclocking your memory just a tad
and putting a little more juice through those grey cell's in your head, See if it helps
with the memory a little, :D ...

Top card is a Chaintech GF4TI4200 8x AGP 128mb w/ a Zalman ZM80-hp
Bottom card is a MSI TI4200 64mb card w/ Heat sinks I cut myself from an old HS. I used Artic Alumina to keep em on. The Chaintech Card does not Overclock well at all no matter what cooling I use. The MSI card Overclocks very well 300/600. But again, no matter what cooling I use it cannot go over 300/600.

I have had the hankering for a new video card but my wallet is telling me no. I have started to overclock my Chaintech GF4 Ti4200 64MB and so far I have had promising results. I am on stock cooling and no ram sinks, so I am not gonna push the card any farrther until I get better cooling. I ran 3dmark01 se for about 2 hours and had no artifacting or glitching of any sort. I then played NFS: U for about 1 1/2 hours and had no artifacting or glitching. RAM was warm to the touch but not hot and core cooler was fine.

Speed - 300/575

I think I will be able to reach 315/600 with better cooling.

1.) thats a 128Mb
2.) its probably not a chaintech is it?

If it was, you would know how hard it is to get those POS's up to a speed above stock.

I had a P4 cooler on mine, and it maxed out at 310 core, and the mem was rated for 500mhz. Running at 513 stock.

Now, as for YOUR clockspeeds, on the last 128Mb Ti4200 I had in my greasy little paws did 310/620 with ease, first boot I had it in. a Little tweaking, and some ASIII, and it woulda done better :D <it wasn't even a gainward golden sample! :D >

Here's some older pics of my modded XFX ti4200 128MB card that I'm still using.

- AMD heatsink on GPU.
- cut up stock intel heatsink used for RAM sinks.
- Vgpu and Vmem volt modded.
- Lapped GPU core (down to the copper)

100% stable w/o any artifacts @ 352 core / 601 mem

- Before the volt mods, the card could do 320 / 601. Also, the RAM sinks didn't gain me a single stable MHz.

Hello

I have finished installing my Xeon 1U Copper Heatsink onto my GeCube 128MB 9800 Pro.

Please forgive the poor quality of the photos, I don't have a decent camera and I just used my Samsung E700 phone camera. I had the urge to install it at 1AM.

Picture of the card with the Vantec IceBerg 4 removed. I am not removing the GPU shim as my core is raised over the shim height and is in full contact with any heatsink I place on it.
http://simon.fearby.com/temp/9800pro/1U/finished_01_removed_stock.jpg

Picture of the screws with nylon insulating washer.

Aligning the card over the cooler.
http://simon.fearby.com/temp/9800pro/1U/finished_03_align_screws.jpg

I screwed the 1U copper block onto the card and screwed as far as I dared. It seems to be on tight enough (I hope).
http://simon.fearby.com/temp/9800pro/1U/finished_04_mounted_a.jpg

Another view of the mounted heatsink and my past custom ramsinks from an athlon cooler.
http://simon.fearby.com/temp/9800pro/1U/finished_05_mounted_b.jpg

Mmmmm fins and more fins.
http://simon.fearby.com/temp/9800pro/1U/finished_06_mounted_c.jpg

I had to remove one of my 2 PCI TV capture cards to install it but it is worth it. I will upgrade to a A64 3500+, 1GB 2-2-2-5 CAS2 Corsair Ram and a 939 mobo soon and I will have heaps of room.
http://simon.fearby.com/temp/9800pro/1U/finished_07_installed.jpg

I will let the arctic silver settle in over the next few days and then start overclocking again.

OK, my turn now :p
I have a really old ATI 7500 AIW 64mb. :bang head
So I raised my mobo AGP voltage from 1.55 to 1.65 and placed some AMD cooler in the core chip and Thermaltake hs on the RAMs then I made a duct of cardboard spray-painted and added a small fan.

Stock: 260/180
Max stable: 301/209 w/ 1152x864 resolution
Can go 310/220 but starts to artifacts

Most interesting thing is that I don't have any problems at all with video capture... May be because of the little hs I placed in the Rage Theater chip, I don't know...
I'll buy a 9800pro soon and will do something similar but w/ acrylic ducts, neon leds and all... :attn:
Will post pics then ;)

I just completed my mod heatsink project for my two Leadtek 6600 GT TDH's. I used a Dynatron Model C61 Copper heatsink I got off of the egg. The total cost of this project was $25. I lowered my temps by 10°c and almost 300 points in 3Dmark05! I could not be happier with the results. I am using Zip Ties for now, untill I can get some 5/32" screws.

I hope to see some more of these mods on some of your guys 6X series cards!

Old pics of something I did awhile back. Just another 'cutting up an old heatsink for ramsinks' bit on my AIW 9000 Pro. Did manage to get a bit higher to the full clock speed the memory was rated for without artifacts with them though.

And they match the stock GPU sink..;)

I considered replacing the cooler for a moment, but to be honest it doesn't seem to get all that hot, even considering the tiny Radeon Classic era heatsink on it.

I swear the back of the tuner gets much hotter.

That is a vga silencer with a thermaltake duct mod and a Tt 80mm triple blade fan, and a 80mm blower, increased my oc from 430mhz to 445mhz core.

And there is this pre vga silencer mod, some tape, staples and paper, it actually worked.

Ok here is my mod. The card is a Asus 6800 256MB. The cooler is a moded asus stock cooler for 6600GT that I had before the 6800. The plastic cover, and the fan were removed, leaving just the copper base, a ~40x40 mm copper heatsink, and finally a large unused space. I had an old aluminium heatsink from a 486 cpu (50x50 mm) that I lapped and glued on the large unused space of the copper plate(with a special heat transfer glue I don't remember the name of). Finally, I mounted one 40mm fan on the copper hs, and a 50mm on the added al hs. I haven't done much OCing with the old 6600GT, but however, my temps really went down. Later I got a 6800 and I kept the moded hs, and diden't actually even bother with the stock one, so I am not able to compare temps. I am runing stable ever since on a 22.8% oc.

Asus 6800 nu 350/600 MHz oc: 430/750 MHz
temps: 38°C idle 54°C max load

Mine was probably my most ambitious mod,.. on a POS card.

Its a Geforce 5200 fx.
Started with this Heatsink.
The capacitors were in the way so I soldered them on the other side of the PCB. wich is fine since the PCB is multilayer.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02115.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02118.jpg

Then I forced threads into the heatsink that were lined up with the holes for the original CPU cooler and used some screws to hold it in place.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02127.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02128.jpg

Then I vmoded the GPU and memory. And added some hacked up socket 7 heatsinks to the memory.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02290.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02291.jpg
The fan terminals glued to the PCB is for testing GPU voltage and memory voltage.

Then I bought this heatsink and replaced the other one.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02326.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02335.jpg

The blower didnt work as well as I had hoped so I put on a high CFM 40mm fan sucking air through the heatsink and blowing it down into a PCI ehxaust blower.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02342.jpg
The card is stock 1.6v 250MHz/2.2v 333MHz OCed to 1.75v 333Mhz /3v 500MHz.

It still sucks though and its the card in my main computer.

With a homemade thermometer one probe wedged in the ramsink and the other crazy glued to the back of the gard where the GPU is get the following.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/InternalVoice/DCP02355.jpg
Test running off of 12v battery 1 probe on counter other probe in fridge.

The readings durring idle are 49.9*C gpu and 34.3*C mem
I wonder If I should push the GPU more? Whats the limit on a GPU temperature?

Interesting...

I dont have a pic as of yet, but all i did was simply zip tie a 92mm fan with variable speed control, to the heat sink on my 7600GTKO and with overclocking it at 630/1650mhz, get 48*c and 55*c under a full load. I didnt have to do any funky ducting, or strange mods.. it doesnt look so bad either since I used one zip tie as a hook, and used the "catch" portion of the other to latch it on.. the ties are barely visible...

Ill post pics soon.

here's my first card vmod, I did this for a contest in which I got the card for free. It was my first ever 100% oc on the core on AIR!, unlucky me only got 3rd and couldn't progress further :(

as you can see, I used to potmeters to get to the right resistance, this is because I sent my dad out to buy them, and he and the shop attendant didn't read my handwriting right, after I got back from work I couldn't go out to buy new ones because the shops were closed, and the contest was the next day, on a sunday:

I thought about cutting the PCI-E pins to make mine more streamlined, but I figured an R-Type sticker would do the trick.

Edit: I'm a wuss who won't voltmod.

I prefer drilling holes in the PCB for ventilation.

Heres my first real mod in a while. What you see is an ATI Silencer 3 epoxied to a 7900gs.

The GPU on the 7900 is closer to the back of the case than it is on the 9800XT the cooler was designed for. Lacking a saw I used an old soldering iron to melt off the first couple inches from the ATI Silencer. This is my second attempt as the first time I mixed the wrong proportions of AS epoxy and the heatsink came off (luckily I had foreseen this possibility and held the heatsink loosely in place with a wire).

Coupled with a bios voltmod, I've been able to get stable at 575 mhz core, I'll try for more today.

View from the top:

Contrary to what this mod might suggest, I am also generally a wuss, I wait until I've had a card for a year or so and its not worth much in the classifieds.

those of you who are using socket A coolers on the cars, how are you attaching them? i am a big fan of that solution because its so simple, but for now this is the best I could come up with.

http://w4.bikepics.com/pics/2008%5C11%5C23%5Cbikepics-1490883-800.jpg

also, how are you attaching the RAM sinks?

funnyperson1
11-24-08, 05:15 PM
some of them made custom mounting by drilling through and used bolts or zip ties.
Others such as myself used AS epoxy. You would be surprised how strong the bond is.

Most premade ramsinks come with thermal tape. The custom cut ramsinks are attached with thermal tape or attic silver epoxy.
