Anything larger wouldn't fit my desk. I did however use a flat 15" CRT for 6 years. I only upgraded because that one was dying.

17”
And I just moved from 15” to 17” about a year ago.
Recently, I almost went to 19”, but decided I wanted to have my two monitors to match. I like my stuff to look good and the last thing I wanted on my desk was two monitors that were different colors.
17” is big enough. My next buy will be an LCD projector. Those usually have the ability to put out a picture larger than you can accommodate.
Ohh...and I still use a 15".
I use a 19".
After using the 19" for so long, a 17" seems too small to me now. LOL

19" CTX that I've had for 4.5 years. Cost something like $500+. I cringe thinking of what that could buy me now.

So let's see what you use (primarily).

Just got my beautiful NEC 19" Multisync. Great monitor by my standards. I've always wanted NEC, but ended up settling. They rock!
I know I know, some up and coming manufacturers coming out, but I just wanted an NEC.
Next monitor will be LCD. This one was a bargain for $260. Won't be finding a 19" LCD with this quality at that price for a few years ;)

21" for me
And I might add I've never paid more that $260 shipped for any 21" I've ever purchased. With all the DOT COMS going belly up the market has been flooded with high end monitors at great prices, you just need to shop around and be patient.
Dual monitors for me.
21" dell FD trinitron and 17" dell regular CRT.
I recently upgraded from a 19" flatron and 15" nec CRT.
-I bought the 21" dell
-Traded my 19" faltron with my friend for his 17" samsung 700NF+cash
-I then exchanged the 700NF with my borther for his 17" dell.( I figured it wasn't fair that I had two flatscreen monitors and he had none, sort of a christmas gift from me)
- then sold my 15" nec
I love dual monitors. I recommed it to anybody who routinely has multiple windows open at the same time.
My computer is using a 17", and the Gateway has a 15".
I REALLY wish I could get a 19"+ monitor..... I go over to all my friends, and they have these huge monitors that seem to envellop your vision (19"). Also, I've noticed that all the big monitors I've seen all have a flat surface instead of curved. And that's another thing that looks cool about them that makes me wanna get one!

Got ya beat. A guy I know opened a buisness selling dot com stuff. I bought 5 20" Viewsonics for $100 each. That is what my parents, grandparents and aunt now have :D

19 incher for me, desktop at 1024x768.
I got it really cheap. It's a Samtron. 0.26mm diagonal dot pitch, 0.22mm horizontal dot pitch, shadow mask. I know there are higher-end monitors out there, but it looks really good to me.
When I bought it, anything larger was too expensive.
Bigger is better, IMO. Buy as big as you can afford and have space for.
I'll be adding my lil 15 incher as secondary monitor sometime, as soon as I can clear some space on my desk. I usually run it at 800x600.

I never understood this...
This a poll, you broswer it and you put in dot, I assume if you are browsing this you would have to have a monitor, right?
so why if that is case have almost 400 people broswed it and only about 1/4 of them voted? Paranoia?
GotNoRice
01-17-03, 05:48 PM
Ronin, maybe some of the same people browsed the thread more than once, thereby only being able to vote once.
I have a 21" Trinitron, with a .24 Aperture grill pitch. You know what I don’t understand, is a lot of times when I talk to people about my monitor, they say, “that sucks, my monitor has a .22 dotpitch! :D” Not understanding that you can’t compare Aperture Grill Monitor and Shadow Mask monitor numbers like that.

19 inch = standard for 'enthusiests' (sp?)

On my main machines, I have a pair of nice 17 inch IBM P70s which are nice crisp trinitrons. I might be going to a 19 or 21 inch soon, my wife scored me a pile of "slightly faulty" monitors from a CAD office, haven't seen them yet, I'm hopeful I can get a couple going. Don't know if I'll use one, or give my wife one and run dual 17 inchers on mine.

At x-mas this year I swapped out a 22" Mitsubishi CRT for a 19" Samsung LCD. I lost a little screen real estate, but the clarity, brightness, etc. more than make up for it.
I was going to get a 19", but i got a high-end 17" at 179€ instead of 309€.
it gets up to 1600x1200 @ 65hz, not the best, but pretty good though

yeah, I got a 19" NEC Accusync 90 back in 2000 and it's been pretty good to me. I don't think I will be making any transition to LCD for at least a few years. Mostly because the refresh rate on a lot of them is poor and I guess I have a jaded idea of them looking sort of cheesy too. :-P

17 inch LCD now. ...
I used to run a viewsonic trin display, 19 or 18 inch viewable. I tried to turn it on one day and the screen was just black. Power light comes on ect. If you turn it on and off you get a picture for a brief second. tried various video cards and even on a entirely different system /MB setup. still no go. No idea what the heck is wrong with it. Hooked a old monitor up and reset the settings in windows to lowest settings and worst refresh rate. Tried the 19 inch again. still no go.
I called them up for an RMA, they wont let me RMA without a reciept (about 2/12 years old). I did locate the reciept but you cant read it its so old and they wont accept it like that. Plus it weighs in at about 75 pounds so the shipping likely costs almost as much as the monitor. So now i have the worlds largest paperweight laying around.
I like my lcd alot but i really wish i could get the 19 working again for a duel mon setup.

My dad got me an HP 19" from work, for free :)
He asked the guy at the computer tech desk if they had any old 17" monitors lying around (he'a a good friend of the tech desk guy) and the guy came back holding this fat box, scanned it, and nothing happened.
"It's not on the system! Just don't tell anyone" was said, and the box pushed towards my dad :)
Not too shabby - the date code on the monitor suggests that it was built in 1999, I got it mid 2002, unused (I unwrapped all the new packaging).
My dad was killing himself laughing when he walked to the car (he told people that it was full of files ;)) and looking at everyone who had 15" monitors lol :D

Update, yeah I lucked out with those, got 2 working 21 inchers, swapped one for some RAM and I'm using the other on my main rig now. Usually run 1200x1024, I sit too far back to make out stuff at 1600x1400. Picked up another 21 inch for real cheap, but it's a bit of a goldfish bowl, let my wife have it. Forgot whether I voted 17 or 21 on the poll.

19in, Its a Viewsonic E90F. Great moniter, besides it turns green but I had to zip tie the moniter cable and fold it in half to keep it normal. The only thing that makes me mad is it only does 1600 @ 68hz which can only be put at 65hz in windows :(. I want it at 75hz or higher :(. Anyways, AWSOME MONITER! BTW, its weighs 48 pounds. This is my LAN moniter and I dont have any extras (Besides the one for my other computer but only does 1280 @ 60 hz.
