4.1 Audio

Im gonna be ordering a set of Logitech z640's and i was wondering if i need a new soundcard because my onboard sound says it has 6 channels.......

Should be no problem. I would get a 5.1 speaker system, as you have a 6 channel card.

yea but there are only 3 speak plug ins......green(the main one) blue(no clue) and red(mic)......does a 4.1 system have only 1 plugin?

It works as 3 times stereo.
You have one cable which you plug in at you pc, and this plug(dunno the english name) has a line for left and one for right.
With 5.1 you have 6 channels.
Front right and left left (both with one cable)
Rear right and rear left (both with one cable)
subbwoofer and center (both with one cable)

So you only need 3 connections to your soundcard.

With your onboard soundcard, you probably have to set a jumoer on the board, so you can use 6 channel out. Then you don'T have a line out output. Normally lineout and the 2 channels needed for sourround sound are shared.
