I have an Audigy sound card and the Creative 5.1 speaker set(analog). According to the manual there are 3 connections that are made to the sound card(black, green, and orange). I have them setup just as the instructions say, but can only get sound from 4 of the 5 speakers. I have checked AudioHQ and it is set for a 5.1 setup.

Any ideas on what to try or why I only get sound on 4???

An easy way to change it to 5.1 output:

Open the creative player and click on the CMSS button, select enable.

That will turn on the 5.1 sound permanently.

It is permanently set on 5.1, and when I do the test the center channel works. However when I play a DVD, listen to WinAmp, or play a game there is only 4.1 sound.

Did you do what I suggested? I had the probs with the DVD and Winamp (and The centre channel worked in the test only) until I enabled the CMSS. After I enabled it in the player, it then worked for all programs.

I believe it's called Creative Playcenter. It should be runnable from the Start, All Programs, Creative, Creative Playcenter List. Just click on it.

Open the controls for the player by clicking on the button thats just above the word "Creative". Once it slides open, you will see whats supposed to look like a keypad. At the very bottom (underneath the keypad) on the left, you will see CMSS in small, white lettering. Click on that and then click on the "On" that shows up.

Then your set:)

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Thanks a lot Maxi you've been a big help these last few days!

BTW, the system I was building that kept saying the hard drive was failing is now running. Hard drive was all good, but the refurbed A7S333 I got from TCWO wasn't totally functional. I've switched to a Ali Magick chipset and it's working just great now!

I always find 9 times out of ten when you have a sound issue, it's almost always software/drivers. My audigy2 platinum has millions of buttons, features, configurations. It's easy to get lost.

Open your mixer control and see if the microphone input was muted when you reinstalled the driver. I know it did that with the Aux input by default and I got no tv sound until I reset the input box

Thanks guys, i never thought it could sound this good.
My CMSS didn't have the option 'enable' but instead had 'movie mode', which also worked.

i am going to get a Abit IC7-G which has onboard 5.1 sound, it has 5 connectors in the back of the mobo, for the 5.1 sound, since i only use 2 speakers, how can i hook em up for simple stereo?

probably one of the connectors is a Line-out jack, possible the green plug (it is for mine). it might tell you in the mobo's manual.
Or you could just try all the plugs to find the one that works :)

With Playcenter 2 which looks like ^ see the CMSS just below the number pad in the player? click that and a menu will come up.
